This will be the second installment of a series designed to create spontaneous sound and movement collaborations, curated by Adam Levitt. Just prior to the start of the event, names will be drawn randomly to determine 4 pairings of solo musicians and dancers.
Our artists for the evening are:
Houston-based musician and artist Rebecca Novak improvises with a constellation of instruments and objects (cornet, piano, glassware, shortwave radio), having an ear for fine-grained textures and mechanical or electronic sounds using acoustic instruments. Exploring the complex relationships between self and environment, body and object, or performance and being, she often improvises in conjunction with projected images, sculpture or impromptu live writing as part of an ongoing project called Annotation. She has presented her work at Project Row Houses (Houston), ATA/Other Cinema (San Francisco), Experimental Sound Studio (Chicago), Museo Tamayo (Mexico City), Hirsch Library MFAH, Performance Works NW (Portland), Vermillion (Seattle), minicine? (Shreveport) and floating down the Mississippi on a barge designed by Louis Kahn. This is her first performance upon relocating to Seattle.

snairhead
Im perpetually entranced by memory and aliasing and the two's dancing pair. Not a memory's limbs but more the sort of glow and residue lapping at it's edges. It's the hue of the compression artifacts that I find so vivid. It's the way we think of cassettes and ATRAC and the look of vhs or miniDV. The medium has inherited the gleam of it's own lossy nature. The sublime bares it's grin through the distortion of an etching. What sort of artifacts do I as a medium, leave myself to find gilded in recall? Idk but I think it's really fun to think about and trying to inscribe these things in audio is ever-fascinating to me.

the late unpleasantness
zombie cat wrestler
Zombie Cat Wrestler (ZCW) is so far a one woman experimental hardware project from Portland OR, mostly comprised of borrowed equipment from unconditionally supportive friends and now a much anticipated korg minilogue. It sets to pair dancing loops with emotionally resonating synth sounds, embracing syncopation. https://www.instagram.com/punkmotherfakers
Christian Swenson (he/him) is a “retired” performing artist who spends most of his time these days caring for his wife who has Alzheimer’s. He arrived and began dancing in Seattle in 1978 with the Bill Evans Dance Company after which he began his solo career developing “Human Jazz”, a fusion dancing, singing and acting with the body and voice. He has taught and performed all over the world for 40 years and after 5 years absence from the stage is rediscovering his art.
